My nana was so smart! Trying this tonight!

My nana was so smart! Trying this tonight!

We all know that

lampshades are magnets for dust and dirt. Over time, they can look dull and grimy, making your room feel less fresh and inviting. Many people dread cleaning lampshades because they seem delicate, and scrubbing them clean sounds like a tedious task.
But what if I told you there’s a super simple trick to clean those dusty lampshades in just two minutes with almost zero effort? It’s a trick my nana taught me, and I’ve been using it ever since. Here’s how it works.

Why
 Lampshades Get So Dusty
Before we dive into the trick, it’s helpful to understand why lampshades get so dusty in the first place. Lampshades, especially fabric ones, have a texture that easily traps dust. As they’re often placed in areas with lots of airflow, like living rooms or bedrooms, they collect airborne dust particles quickly. Dust can dull the color of the

lampshade and even cause unpleasant odors over time. Regular cleaning helps maintain the brightness and look of your lampshade, and my nana’s method makes it a breeze.
The 2-Minute, Zero-Effort Lampshade Cleaning Trick
What You’ll Need:
A lint roller (the kind with sticky, disposable sheets)
A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment (optional, for heavier dust build-up)
That’s it! No fancy cleaning solutions or special tools are required.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Preparation: Make sure your lampshade is cool to the touch. You don’t want to work with a warm lampshade that’s just been turned off because the glue or materials might be more delicate when warm.
Start Rolling: Take your lint roller and start at the top of the lampshade. Roll it down gently in a straight line, pressing lightly. The sticky surface of the lint roller will pick up dust, pet hair, and other particles clinging to the fabric.
Cover All Areas: Continue rolling the lint roller across all surfaces of the lampshade. Be thorough but gentle to avoid damaging delicate fabrics. Rotate the lampshade as you go to ensure you cover every side.
Peel and Repeat: If the lint roller sheet becomes covered with dust and loses its stickiness, peel it off to reveal a fresh layer, and continue rolling until the entire lampshade is clean.
Optional Vacuuming: If your lampshade hasn’t been cleaned in a while and has accumulated a thick layer of dust, you might want to use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment before using the lint roller. Gently vacuum the lampshade to remove the majority of the dust, then finish with the lint roller to pick up finer particles.
And just like that, in less than two minutes, your lampshade will look almost new again!
Why This Method Works So Well

Why This Method Works So Well
The secret to this trick lies in the simplicity and effectiveness of the lint roller. It’s designed to pick up tiny particles like lint, hair, and dust, which are the main culprits making lampshades look dirty. By gently rolling over the lampshade’s surface, the sticky sheets trap the dust without spreading it around or grinding it into the fabric.
Unlike traditional dusters that often just move dust around, a lint roller actually picks up and removes dust, leaving the surface much cleaner. Plus, because the lint roller is sticky, it grabs onto particles that a simple cloth might miss. This method is also much faster and less cumbersome than washing the lampshade or using heavy cleaning solutions that could potentially damage delicate fabrics.
Additional Tips and Tricks
Use Microfiber Cloths: If you don’t have a lint roller, a clean microfiber cloth will also do the trick. Microfiber is excellent at picking up dust and debris without scratching or damaging surfaces. Simply wipe the lampshade gently with the cloth in a downward motion.
Regular Maintenance: To keep your lampshades looking fresh, make it a habit to clean them regularly. A quick once-over with a lint roller every couple of weeks can prevent dust from building up.
Be Gentle with Delicate Fabrics: If your lampshade is made from a particularly delicate fabric like silk, be extra cautious. Consider using a softer adhesive lint roller or a microfiber cloth to avoid any risk of tearing or fraying.
Dealing with Stains: For fabric lampshades with stains, a slightly damp sponge with a little mild soap can help. Dab (don’t rub) the stain gently, then blot with a clean cloth to dry. Always test a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure the soap doesn’t damage or discolor the fabric.

Thanks to my nana, I’ve discovered that keeping lampshades clean doesn’t have to be a chore. With a simple lint roller and less than two minutes of your time, you can keep your lampshades looking fresh and new, adding a brighter, cleaner feel to your space. So the next time you notice a dusty lampshade, don’t stress—grab your lint roller and put this easy trick to the test!

Simple Ways to Reduce Nighttime Wake-Ups and Improve Your Sleep Quality

by

Waking up during the night is a common experience, and it can leave you feeling tired and frustrated the next day.

If you can understand why it happens, this can be an important first step toward improving your rest.

Factors such as daily habits, stress, and natural sleep cycles can affect how deeply you sleep.

Pay attention to your routine and patterns, and then you can approach nighttime awakenings with more patience and confidence.

Your sleep environment plays an important part in helping you stay asleep. A cool, quiet, and dark room supports deeper rest and makes it easier for your body to relax.

Simple adjustments—like reducing noise, using blackout curtains, or choosing comfortable bedding—can create a more calming atmosphere.

As your space feels peaceful, drifting back to sleep after waking becomes much easier.

Emotional balance is another key part of healthy sleep.

Stress or racing thoughts often feel stronger at night, which can make it harder to settle down again.

Gentle relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or light journaling can help create a sense of calm.

Reducing screen time before going to bed and practicing a consistent nighttime routine may also support a smoother transition into restful sleep.

Daily habits and overall wellness can also affect nighttime awakenings.

Eating heavy meals, drinking caffeine or alcohol close to bedtime, or consuming large amounts of fluids can disrupt sleep.

In some cases, underlying health concerns may contribute, and discussing them with a healthcare professional can offer helpful guidance.

With thoughtful adjustments and consistent habits, you can encourage more peaceful nights and wake up feeling refreshed.

A Chef’s Secret for the Best Egg Salad

by

When asked about my go-to food, I always say  salad. But it’s not just any salad; it’s egg salad!

Salads are my favorite because they’re quick to whip up and always refreshing. When I tell my mom I had egg salad for dinner, she usually chuckles and asks, “Are you a vegetarian, girl?” I mean, I am, but there’s something irresistible about a well-made egg salad that I can’t resist.

It turns out there’s a hidden ingredient that takes egg salad to a whole new level. Who taught me this? The amazing chef Carla Hall! My egg salad game changed forever when she shared this life-altering tip on Instagram.

The Basics of Egg Salad Preparation

Let’s start with the fundamentals of making egg salad. You’ll want to whisk together eggs,

mayonnaise, mustard, onion, chives, salt, and pepper—basic ingredients that are probably already in your kitchen. Here’s how to make a simple egg salad:

Boil the Eggs: Begin by boiling six large eggs. Place them in a pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil. Once the water reaches a boil, remove the pot from heat and let the eggs sit for 10 to 12 minutes. Afterward, transfer the eggs to a bowl of cold water to chill.
Chop and Peel: Once the eggs are cool enough to handle, peel them. Normally, you’d mince them, but Carla Hall’s magic is about to happen.

The Game-Changing Method

see continuation on next page

The Game-Changing Method

To elevate your egg
 salad, separate the

egg whites from the yolks. This technique, reminiscent of deviled eggs but modified for salad, transforms the dish.

Carefully separate the egg whites from the yolks, breaking the whites into small pieces in a bowl.
Crumble the yolks over the shredded egg whites. This separation creates a creamier texture.
In a separate bowl, mix together half a cup of

mayonnaise, one tablespoon of mustard, about a quarter cup of finely chopped onion, a couple of teaspoons of chopped chives, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix these ingredients thoroughly.
Now, whisk the egg yolks into the mayonnaise mixture, then fold in the egg whites gently until smooth and creamy.

Why This Works

Why does separating the eggs result in a creamier salad? The egg whites get perfectly coated with the crushed yolks and mayonnaise, creating a velvety texture. This method ensures a cohesive, creamy consistency in every bite, rather than having chunky bits of egg floating in mayo.
Serving Suggestions

The beauty of egg salad lies in its versatility. Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy it:

Classic Sandwich: Spread a thick layer of egg salad between two slices of soft bread. Add lettuce for crunch and a slice of tomato for a fancy touch.
Crackers: Spread egg salad on your favorite crackers for a quick and healthy snack.
Stuffed Tomatoes: Hollow out ripe tomatoes and fill them with egg salad for a delicious and visually appealing dish.
Lettuce Wraps: For a low-carb option, wrap egg salad in large lettuce leaves for a fresh and filling bite.
Mixed Greens: Serve egg salad in a bowl over mixed greens, garnished with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and avocado for a vibrant, nutritious lunch.

Tomato seeds

Despite its simplicity, egg salad is a versatile dish with endless potential. By following Carla Hall’s trick of separating the yolks from the whites, you can take this classic recipe to new heights. It’s filling, flavorful, and creamy—perfect for any occasion, whether you’re in a hurry or preparing a special meal.

Keep this little secret in mind for your next craving for something refreshing and delicious. Your egg salad will impress everyone at the table, even the most skeptical!

Why My Wife Keeps  Toilet Paper Rolls in the

Fridge – And How It Saves Us Money

At first glance, storing

toilet paper in the fridge might seem like a strange or even pointless idea. But when I asked my wife why she insists on keeping a few rolls tucked away next to the milk and orange juice, her answer surprised me: “It saves us a lot of money in a year.”

Curious? So was I. Here’s what I found out:
Toilet Paper in the Fridge? Here’s the Logic Behind It

It turns out, keeping toilet paper in the refrigerator isn’t just a quirky habit. It actually has a few practical benefits that most people don’t know about:
1. Acts as a Natural Dehumidifier

Toilet paper is highly absorbent. Placing a roll inside the fridge helps absorb excess moisture, preventing unwanted condensation and mold growth. That means your food stays fresher for longer — and you throw away less.

Groceries
2. Eliminates Odors

Toilet paper doesn’t just soak up moisture — it can also help neutralize odors. It absorbs the strong smells of leftover food, garlic, onions, and more. This means you might not need to buy odor removers or baking soda as often.
3. Keeps Rolls Dry and Fresh

If you live in a humid environment, toilet paper stored outside can sometimes feel damp or soft before you even use it. Storing it in the fridge ensures it’s always crisp and dry when you need it.
4. Budget-Friendly Hack
