According to an article published by The Journal of Clinical Therapeutics and Risk Management, restless legs syndrome (RLS) was first identified in 1685 by Dr. Thomas Willis.
However, it is only recently that this phenomenon has attracted the attention of scientists, even if it remains largely misunderstood and often wrongly diagnosed.
Indeed, this syndrome is a sensorimotor sleep disorder. It is recognized by a feeling of discomfort in the legs, which forces the person to move their body in order to get rid of it.
It can appear at any time of the day, but it is especially disturbing at night because of its disruptive effect on sleep.
Indeed, some people are able to relieve their pain by moving their legs, but others require more significant movements such as walking or stretching.
There are two types of RLS: the first based on heredity and the second which can result from pregnancy, iron deficiencies or end-stage kidney disease.
A myth that turns out to be strangely effective
Recommended by Dr. Mehmet Oz of the  Dr. Oz Show , this remedy, which can be considered a grandmother’s tip, claims that soap, and in particular lavender soap, would relieve the effects of weak leg syndrome. rest thanks to its soothing properties.
Indeed, even if the scientific link between soap and this condition has never been established, the relaxing benefits of lavender are well documented.
As  The Journal of Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine explains, lavender has long been considered a traditional remedy with relaxing properties, and this plant has even demonstrated properties through studies carried out in humans and animals. anxiolytics, analgesics, mood stabilizers, anticonvulsants and neuroprotectants.
A remedy with growing popularity, it is also of interest to  Dr Jim Sears , pediatrician and host of the American show The Doctors.
Thanks to a survey he conducted on Twitter, he discovered that 42% of those questioned would use soap under their sheets as a remedy for restless legs syndrome.
Although scientific explanations for this phenomenon are rare or non-existent,  Andrew G. Kowal , a doctor specializing in pain management, theorizes that this natural remedy would be effective thanks to the release of magnesium from the soap, thus helping to relieve nighttime cramps.
Furthermore, numerous testimonials add to the popularity of this strange remedy, to say the least. A young man suffering from excruciating pain says:
“In 1997, I suffered a herniated disc so bad that it caused nerve damage. I suffered from excruciating pain in my lower back and right leg that kept me from sleeping in my bed for almost 10 years. I was recommended to put soap under my sheets to ease the pain and for the first time, I was able to sleep 3 consecutive days in my own bed without any pain when I woke up! »
So, if you suffer from leg pain, don’t hesitate to place lavender soap under your sheets!
