So I decided to turn the mattress over, just to air out and clean the room. Everything was going as usual until I noticed a strange cluster of small black grains in one corner of the bed.
They were matte, with a slight sheen, like small coals.
I froze. At first, I thought they were insect eggs, maybe cockroaches. My heart started beating faster, and I even felt chills down my spine.
I carefully gathered some grains on a piece of paper and examined them.
They were too hard and dry to be alive. But still, how had they gotten there, under my mattress?
Honestly, I was shocked when I found out what it was. Have you ever seen anything similar? More details in the first comment.
To calm myself down, I took a photo of my find and sent it to a friend who was passionate about plants and oriental medicine. The response came almost immediately:
— They are KalinjiThose are black cumin seeds! Someone put them there on purpose.
I didn’t believe it. But after searching the internet and reading, I realized she was right. These seeds have long been considered protective amulets against evil and illness. They were placed under the mattress, under the threshold, or even sewn into pillows to “keep envy and bad dreams away from the house.”
At first, I was scared: had someone been acting in secret, without my knowledge? But then I remembered that a month earlier, my grandmother had come. She still believed in the old customs and said that “the youth center should smell of kindness, not fear.”
I called her that evening:
“Grandma, did you put something under my mattress?”
She laughs softly:
“Did you just notice? They’re Kalinji. Let them protect you. I see you haven’t been sleeping well lately.”
