In the heart of the Midwest, where fields stretch as far as the eye can see, there lies a simple yet delightful recipe that’s been a staple at family gatherings for generations: the Slow Cooker 3-Ingredient Cola Pork Shoulder. This dish harkens back to the days when my grandmother would cook up a storm for Sunday dinners after church. The magic lies in its simplicity—a perfect blend of sweet and savory that makes the pork tender and full of flavor. This recipe is perfect for busy days when you want a comforting meal without much fuss.
This tender pork shoulder pairs beautifully with a side of creamy mashed potatoes or buttery corn on the cob, evoking memories of summer picnics and family reunions. A crisp coleslaw adds a refreshing crunch to the plate, balancing the richness of the pork. For a true Midwest feast, serve it alongside freshly baked rolls to mop up all the savory juices.
Slow Cooker 3-Ingredient Cola Pork Shoulder

Servings: 6-8 servings
Ingredients
1 (4-5 pound) pork shoulder
1 (12 oz) can of cola
1 (18 oz) bottle of barbecue sauce
Directions
Place the pork shoulder in the  slow cooker.
Pour the can of cola over the pork, ensuring it is evenly covered.
Add the bottle of barbecue sauce, making sure the pork is well-coated.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
Stir the shredded pork back into the sauce in the slow cooker before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the barbecue sauce before cooking. If you prefer a smokier flavor, try using a chipotle-infused barbecue sauce. For a tangy twist, add a splash of apple cider vinegar to the cola before pouring it over the pork. This dish is also delicious served as pulled pork sandwiches on toasted buns, topped with pickles and coleslaw.
